Chandanasava (Chandanasavam) – Benefits, Uses, Indications and Dosage

Introduction

Chandanasava (Chandanasavam) is an Ayurvedic formulation used for kidney and urinary disorders. It is an Ayurvedic wine preparation as it has 5-10% of self-generated alcohol. It is very beneficial to cure burning urination, UTI, Dysuria, Renal calculi, Kidney failure and Gonorrhea.

It is traditionally used as a treatment for nightfall. It also provides strength, nourishment, as a cardiac tonic and improves digestion also.

Method of Preparation

The sugar and Jaggery are first mixed in water, dissolved and filtered. The remaining ingredients are taken in the form of a coarse powder and added to the pot of water. These ingredients should be stirred well. The vessel is then sealed and kept away for a month. The self-generated alcohol is observed and filtered. Finally in the end product is stored in air tight jars.

Dosage

The asava should be taken in a quantity of 15-25 ml mixed with equal quantity of water after meals twice a day.

Contradictions

Chandanasava has no reported Contradictions. But it should be avoided in pregnancy or to take under doctor’s supervision.
