Saurav, who was still in the teens when he suffered from Ulcerative Colitis

Saurav, is a young boy who is still in his teens and lives at a beautiful lake city of Nainital, which attracts thousands of tourists every year who come to watch its scenic beauty and is situated in Himalayas of Uttarakhand, an Indian state. It all began with loose motions and his parents started chiding with him that he must have eaten some bad or stale food from outside and most of the food stalls present in the town are not hygienic. But as usual he took a pill from a local chemist and the stools subsided.

On the next day, the 3 of them went to see that doctor who after observing the symptoms did his colonoscopy test and it did confirm that he was suffering from Ulcerative Colitis (UC). “He is a patient of UC and this disease takes some time to get a complete cure, do you have the time?” he asked Saurav. They called that doctor’s office but found the doctor missing and had gone out of the station.

They had a word with his dad and decided to change the hospital and went to another renowned hospital, many co-exist in the capital, New Delhi. They kept changing the hospitals but the relief was never visible to Saurav, who was getting too skinny and was thinking that if his disease can’t find a solution in New Delhi that means that this disease has no cure. On a visit to a known hospital he asked the doctor, “Does this disease has a cure or you are making a fool of us, I don’t think that any one has had any effect, is it going to be cured or do I have to suffer like that throughout my life?” The doctor explained him clearly, “Look Saurav, the only cure we can suggest is this medicine that has 40mg of steroids, if it is showing no effects then I am sorry you need to take this medicine continuously for the rest of your life otherwise face the worst consequences.”

Tears began flowing out of Saurav’s eyes with his uncle consoling him that one day they will find some other cure. Both came out of the clinic in a dreary mood.
