INTRODUCTION

Aravindasavam is an Ayurvedic formulation prepared by the fermentation process. This herbal remedy is used to increase digestion power and improves strength in children. It is used as a general tonic for all children’s problems. It is usually the first choice of medicine for children.

BENEFITS OF INGREDIENTS

  1. Aravinda (Nelumbo nucifera) – The flowers of this plant are highly beneficial in the treatment of gastric ulcers as it soothes gastrointestinal lining. It is also useful to aid digestion.
  2. Usheera (Vetiveria zizanioides) – Usheera helps to normal down digestive problems. Due to its cool potency, it is used in a burning sensation.
  3. Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) – Gambhari is one among Dashamoola group of herbs (group of ten roots). The bark of this herb is laxative and used in the treatment of indigestion and constipation.
  4. Utpala (Nymphaea stellata) – Utpala is a potential herb used in Ayurvedic medicines. It is used in the treatment of urinary tract disorders and considered as a bitter tonic.
  5. Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia) – Manjishta is considered as a best blood purifier in Ayurveda. It also helps to maintain good digestion.
  6. Choti elaichi (Elettaria cardamomum) – Elaichi is a good digestive stimulant and carminative in nature. According to Ayurveda, Elaichi has an influence on all three doshas. It balances tridosha in the body, so it is an important ingredient of this asvam.
  7. Bala (Sida cordifolia) – It is used for boosting physical stamina and immunity power.

  9. Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – Musta is used in treating digestive system disorders such as diarrhoea, fever and dyspepsia.
  10. Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) – Sariva is madhur ( Sweet) in taste and helps to improve digestion and anorexia. In children, it acts as a rejuvenating agent.
  11. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – Haritaki is found to be rich in vitamin c and it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Terminalia chebula is a rejuvenating, expectorant and appetite stimulator.
  12. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) – It has astringent properties hence highly beneficial in maintaining the gut flora. The fruits of this herb are also immune modulator in nature.
  13. Vacha (Acorus calamus) – This herb has emetic, laxative, stomachic, diuretic, aphrodisiac, anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory.
  14. Amalaki (Embilica officinalis) – Amalaki is a rich source of vitamin c and fibers. It is best used for any digestion related problem.
  15. Shati (Hedychium spicatum) – This herb is effective in the treatment of swelling and indigestion.

  16. Priyangu ( Callicarpa macrophylla) – Priyangu is sheetla ( Cold), tikta (Bitter) that helps to manage delusion, burning sensation, fever, vomiting and dyspepsia. It pacifies pitta dosha in the body.
  17. Neelimool (Indigofera tinctoria) – Neel mool is used in treating skin disorders and urinary tract infections.
  18. Patola (Trichosanthes dioica) – Patola is an herb used to improve the digestive power of the body. It has anti-inflammatory properties.
  19. Pitpapda (Fumaria parviflora) – Pitpapda is an effective herb used in fever, aggravated Pitta conditions. It is also used in the treatment of fever, gastritis, diarrhoea, burning sensation and dyspepsia.
  20. Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) – The extraction of Arjuna helps to support digestive health. It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
  21. Madhuka ( Madhuca indica) – This herb is sweet and pungent in nature and it provides nourishment and also strengthens the body.
  22. Yashti madhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – Yashtimadhu provides strength to the body as it helps to boost immunity.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

All the above ingredients are taken in powder form and they are mixed with water, jaggery and honey and this mixture is kept in a mud vessel for one month. The mud vessel is kept in a room and after one month this mixture is filtered and transferred into glass bottles for further use.

This herbal liquid remedy is used in children’s problems like to gain weight and body strength. It is also used to treat the psychological disorders of children like crying without reason.

CONTRAINDICATION

This herbal remedy should not be given on an empty stomach, as it can cause ulcer formation.
