  4. Due to aggravated Vata dosha.

  • Primary Dysmenorrhea : This occurs usually before the onset of periods and is considered normal or not due to any diseases. It can also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting as well.
  • Secondary Dysmenorrhea : This is caused due to underlying conditions of the reproductive system like endometriosis, adenomyosis etc. Unlike primary dysmenorrhea, this should be taken into serious consideration and treated accordingly.

Ayurveda Comes With Solution As Well

  • Massaging with sesame (Sesamum indicum) oil is a great option as it is one among the drugs used for Abhyanga as per Ayurveda and proven effective to reduce cramps.
  • Eating raw bananas (Musa) is a handy and good option as it has fibre and might help to reduce pain due to muscle contractions.
  • Doing yoga like Pranayamaas help in increasing or regulating your blood flow enough to soothe your muscles.

Maintaining cleanliness throughout your periods is very important. It’s important to give proper rest and sleep to your body. Sleeping during the day is not advisable. Do not do heavy exercising. Stay away from external stresses like even loud sounds. Avoid heavy massages to the body. Sex during periods would be better to be avoided. Avoid giving even the slightest physical stress to your body like tying your hair tightly or doing activities that demand physical strength.
