What is Neuroblastoma?

A Neuroblastoma is a cancer that grows from nerve cells and most commonly develops in and around the adrenal glands. It is said that Neuroblastoma is the cancer of sympathetic nervous system which is a network of nerves throughout the body and carries messages from the brain. Neuroblastoma is a solid and malignant tumor that originates as a lump or mass in the abdomen or in the chest, neck and around the adrenal glands. There are also the chances for the development in other areas of the abdomen, chest, neck and pelvis where ever the nerve cells exist. Children aged 5 or less are more prone to be affected by Neuroblastoma. Yet the cause for this is unknown, family history is considered to be a risk factor.

What is the Ayurvedic concept for Neuroblastoma Cancer?

As per Ayurvedic text Vata dosha is responsible for cell division. Aggravation of Vata dosha and suppression of kapha dosha, both of the doshas are responsible for interacting with one another may result in proliferation of cells. However, the Ekadesavriddhi (growth at specific part) is a part of abnormal cell division resulting in benign or malignant tumours. Acharya Susruta has explained about six stages in the pathogenesis of all diseases. They are Sanchaya, the early stages of localized neoplastic changes; Prakopa is transformation of primary growths into metastatic tumours; Prasara is metastasis; Sthana samsraya is complete metastasis and secondary growth. Vyakti is the clinical signs and symptoms observed. Bheda is the stage where differentiation of growth is understood on the basis of histopathology.
