Chinchadi Lehyam

Introduction

Chinchadi Lehyam is an ayurvedic formulation that is prepared from mixture of herbs. Lehyams are known as semisolid jam like preparations. One of the important herb of this formulation is chinch, which is famous with the name of sweet tamarind. This herb is enriched with phytochemical tartaric acid, non-starchy polysaccharides, limonene, cinnamic acid and many more. Due to these phytochemicals, plant known to contain very effective propreties such as digestive, laxative and emulsifying etc.

Ingredients

  • Chincha – Sweet tamarind
  • Vidanga – Embelia ribes
  • Kankola – Piper cubeba
  • Caraway – Carum carvi
  • Cumin seeds – Cuminum cyminum
  • Mandura – Iron Bhasma
  • Bilva – Aegle marmelos
  • Cinnamon – Cinnamomum verum
  • Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum
  • Patra – Cinnamomum tamala
  • Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra
  • Rasna – Pluchea lanceolata
  • Jaayaphal – Myristica fragrans
  • Trikatu – Pepper, long pepper and ginger
  • Triphala – Haritaki, Vibhitaki and Amalaki
  • One year old jaggery

Method of Preparation

  • Take the ingredients in an appropriate quantity, chincha up to 48 grams, kankola, triphala, trikuta, cinnamon, patra, cumin, caraway, licorice, jayaphal, rasna and cardamom up to 24 grams, bilva and vidanga up to 96 grams, mandura up to 480 grams and jaggery up to 240 grams.
  • Powder all the ingredients and mix with jaggery.
  • Then boil the mixture with water till the correct consistency of formulation is obtained.
  • After consistency is obtained, add spices and ghee in to the mixture and stir well.
  • At last honey is added for preserving purpose.

Dose

  • 5 to 10 grams, with buttermilk or honey, after meals.
  • For children: Below 5 years of age – 1 to 2 grams, one to two times a day. For 5 to 12 Age groups – up to 5 grams.

Contraindications

  • High doses can cause stomach irritation
  • Take medicine under doctor’s prescription
  • Avoid if suffer from diabetes.
