Chandanadi Thailam (Oil)

Introduction

Chandanadi Thailam (Oil) is an Ayurvedic oil. It acts as a natural coolant oil. It is used to relieve burning sensation, dizziness, etc. It can be used as a hair oil and also used to massage the entire body. It is used both for oral intake and external application.

Ingredients

Paste prepared with 12 grams of fine powders of:-

  • Prapaundarika (Lotus variety)
  • Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia)
  • Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa)
  • Padmakeshara (Lotus stamen)
  • Kumuda (Nymphaea stellate)
  • Utpala (Nelumbo nucifera)
  • Shaluka (Blue lotus stalk)
  • Mrinala (Lotus stalk)
  • Padmaka (Prunus puddum)
  • Ananta (Hemidesmus indicus)
  • Kusha (Desmostachya bipinnata)
  • Kasha (Saccharum spontaneum)
  • Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum)
  • Kshirishrunga (Lilium polyphyllum)
  • Valkala (Buchanania latifolia)
  • Jeevaniya gana herbs
  • Licoroce (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
  • Priyala (Buchanania lanzan)
  • Parushaka (Phoenix pusilla)
  • Rasanjana (Berberis aristata)
  • Ashoka (Saraca indica)
  • Raisins
  • Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus)
  • Tanduleeyaka (Amaranthus spinosus L.)
  • Sesame oil

Decoction Herbs:-

  • Chandana (Santalum album)
  • Udichya (Pavonia odorata)
  • Nalada (Nardostachys jatamansi)
  • Amla (Emblica officinalis)
  • Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
  • Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus)
  • Bala (Sida cordifolia)
  • Water

Method of Preparation Chandanadi Thailam

Finely crush all the herbs and mix them in sesame oil to form a paste. Prepare a decoction from the herbs mentioned. After the decoction is made add the paste in it and boil it till the herbs are totally infused in the oil. Remove from heat and filter it. Transfer the filtrate in a clean bottle and store it away from heat, light and moisture.

Method of Usage

  • 4 to 8 drops can be used for nasal instillation.
  • 2 to 3 ml can be taken orally twice daily before meals with warm water.
  • It can also be used for massaging.

  • Bleeding disorders
  • Psychosis
  • Liver disorders

Contraindications

  • Over dosage might cause diarrhea.
  • Self-medication should be avoided.
