Introduction

Saptasaram Kashayam is a very famous Ayurvedic medicine in liquid form. It is also known as Saptasara Kwatha, kashaya etc. It is used in the treatment of hip pain. It is made of seven herbs. Hence the name Saptasaram. It is made of seven herbs, hence, the name. It is hugely used in curing hip pain, low digestive power, constipation, menstrual ailments etc. it balances Vata.

Ingredients

  • Varshabhu (Boerhaavia diffusa)
  • Bilva (Aegle marmelos)
  • Horsegram (Dolichos biflorus)
  • Castor (Ricinus communis)
  • Sahacara (Barleria prionitis)
  • Shunthi (Zingiber officinale)
  • Agnimantha (Clerodendrum phlomidis)

Method of Preparation

Clean and coarsely grind all the herbs and put them in water and boil it till it reduces to 1/4th. Remove from heat and let it cool. Filter the decoction and store it in tinted bottles.

Saptasaram Kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine available in the herbal decoction form. Dosage

12 to 24 ml mixed with equal amounts of water and consume it before or after meals as prescribed by the doctor.

Contraindications

  • There are no reported side effects as such but it should be avoided during pregnancy.
  • Over dosage might cause diarrhea.
  • Self-medication is discouraged.
