Breast Cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in developed countries. It affects the tissues of the breast first. It affects one in eight women and is the number two cancer killer of women. The cells undergo abnormal growth and go out of control. This form of cancer is likely to occur in both women and men, although it is more common in women. In majority of the cases, it starts from the ducts or lobes, while in some cases, it starts from the cellular lining of the milk ducts.

However, mortality due to breast cancer has been reduced in the last decades due to the advent of technology which has made the earlier detection possible.

An Ayurvedic view of Breast Cancer

According to Master Sushruta (Father of Surgery), aggravated doshas get accumulated in the particular area of the body which causes excess aberration in the muscular tissues and in that area, circular, mild, stable and painful growths develop which develop with time. Such abnormal and prominent growths are termed as “Arbuda” (cancerous mass).

Secondly, improper lifestyle and diet lead to the imbalance of all the three doshas leading to breast cancer.

What are the symptoms of Breast Cancer?

Signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer include:

  • A lump in the breast or a thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue.
  • Dimpling or changes of the skin over the breast.
  • There is a change in the size and appearance of the breast.
  • There is pitting or redness in the skin of the breast like the skin of an orange.
  • Peeling, crusting, flaking or scaling of the pigmented area of the skin surrounding the areola or skin of the breast.

Diet and Lifestyle

  • Regular Water Intake: It helps in maintaining the alkalinity of the body. Acidic environment of human body promotes cancer whereas alkaline environment helps to fight the cancer better.
  • Regular Exercise: It not only helps in increasing oxygen but also reduces physical and mental stress as well as improves immunity. It is believed that oxygenation fights cancerous cells. Include 30-45 minutes of walking in the morning.
  • Various factors such as lack of sleep, chemicals and pesticides, low blood oxygen are responsible for acidic body. So, maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
