Review of Planet Ayurveda in Ludhiana, Punjab | Case Study #18

Manpreet, basically is from Himachal Pradesh, the land of mighty Himalayas that has beautiful landscapes and is visited by numerous tourists annually. Now she is settled at Ludhiana, as she is married to a local boy who works in a private firm and earning handsomely. She is a housewife and mostly stays at home doing the routine chores. She is merely 22 years old and not a year has passed since the time she got married. Her hubby used to say that she is working all the time to keep their house neat & clean. “Don’t exaggerate yourself doing all this work, take some rest darling, you seem to be working overtime.” Even she thought that she is feeling tired as they had no maid and both were thinking to keep a maid the day she becomes pregnant. This was not the truth. In fact she came to know about the lack of sufficient number of platelets when she experienced certain symptoms like excessive bleeding during her menstrual periods, red spots appeared all over her body, pain in her joints and she used to feel tired all the time.

“What’s this?” she asked her astonished hubby, who was perplexed on seeing the red spots. “Are you allergic to something, maybe air pollution?” he asked. Air pollution is certainly a lot higher in Ludhiana city than Himachal Pradesh which has so many trees that you feel the fresh air flowing all the time and Ludhiana, being an Industrial town of India (famous as the Manchester of India) known for producing bi-cycles and hosiery items. “It might be the reason, why don’t we see the family doctor?” she questioned him. “I hardly know anyone out here, but don’t worry, I’ll take the holiday today by calling my boss and let him know the situation and see where he prefers to send us” came the reply.

He took out his mobile and called his boss and after the conversation turned to his wife and said, “let’s go to CMC and get checked, it’s a renowned hospital of Ludhiana.” They both got ready and landed at CMC (Christian Medical College) and consulted a lady doctor and the doctor asked for 2 tests, CBC and bone marrow aspiration done. They both got the test done and after getting the report of CBC test done went to meet the lady doctor and handed her the report.

The lady doctor frowned a little bit and said, “this is what I feared.” “Anything wrong ma’am,” her hubby was also anxious to know “Is everything all right or something bad, please do tell me honestly” he pleaded. “No no nothing, only her platelet count is too low, mere 4,000 per micro liter of blood, it can be due to many reasons but we have a medicine that will cure her very soon, but first let the report of bone marrow aspirations come down, ok” she smiled them and both left. After 3, 4 days the bone marrow aspiration report confirmed it and the doctor scaring them said, “better get her treatment done at the earliest as once the bleeding begins, or a wound or a cut is incurred accidentally it will be an uphill task for the doctors to stop bleeding as to clot the blood you need at least 1,50,000 per micro liter of blood to 4,50,000 per micro liter of blood platelet count and she has just 4,000, if the bleeding doesn’t stop you know what can happen,” she trailed off. Both of them looked at each other and her hubby said “OK, ma’am, I’ll have to take some holidays, as no one else resides with us or I’ll call my mom, let her come and I’ll get in touch with you very soon.” “Sooner, the better” the doctor replied.

Both reached home and her hubby called his mom and narrated the whole story to her, who listened carefully and instructed him not to get admitted to any hospital unless she reaches Ludhiana. He said,”Fine mamma, you come as fast as you can and call me back, I’ll receive you the moment you reach the bus stand. His mother called him after a few hours, “I am coming by train that will reach Ludhiana station at 4:30 am tomorrow morning, do receive me at the station. I am coming by ………….Express. OK son, see you tomorrow.” “Sure mom, I will” he said quietly and turned towards Manpreet, “don’t worry mom is coming tomorrow and we will begin treatment from tomorrow only.” Both spent the rest of the day watching TV and later retired in their room after having their dinner. He helped her in cooking too as he was worried that she can get hurt or incur a cut. He was being too conscious and he knew the result if something drastic like that happens. He himself cut all the veggies, he loved her so much.

The alarm rang at 4 am and he picked up his bike and went to the railway station to fetch his mother. The train arrived on time and he saw his mom standing near the door of her coach and after exchanging the greetings, he picked up her luggage, and both reached home by 4:50 am. Manpreet was making tea for all 3 of them. She touched his mom’s feet to seek blessings and the conversation began about Manpreet’s platelet count. Their nears or dears have got treated there. I’ll fix the appointment right now,” he was chuckling and dialed the Planet Ayurveda’s number and a lady in a very pleasant voice said, “Hello, this is Planet Ayurveda and how can I help you?” He narrated the whole story and asked when can he meet the doctors? She asked him to bring all the lab reports and medicine slips recommended by CMC and the whole history of his wife and come to Mohali, the day after to-morrow. “Sure ma’am, my whole family will come” he replied. The whole family went on the appointed day, the couple and their mom arrived at Mohali, the HQ of Planet Ayurveda.

The doctor recommended the same dose, the next month it had reached 76,000 per micro liter of blood and the 3rd month saw it climbing to 1,10,000 per micro liter of blood. After 4 months it zoomed to 2,00,000 per micro liter of blood and have stopped taking any more medicine, but are following the same diet plan, the one prescribed by the doctor and when after 4 months the amount had increased so much that no one did stop her for bringing sweets all the way from Ludhiana and everybody working here were served with a piece each.
