Ulcerative Colitis that Doesn’t Find a Cure in the Modern Science!

Naya Nangal can be located on the foot of Shivalik hills on one side and all the other 3 sides by the water of the river Satluj. A lake was constructed from this river and a multi-purpose dam was built on it, Bhakra Dam, which attracts lots of tourists from India and abroad. A young lady, in her 30’s to be more precise. Named Mrs. Krishna Sawant felt a little lazy one day and thought that as she is always busy doing household chores routinely, her body will get fine after having some rest. In the afternoon around 12:00pm, she went into her bedroom and went on to sleep but was unable to do so as she didn’t sleep soundly for more time and woke up at 12:55pm. She kept turning and twisting in bed but couldn’t get the sleep, but still then she kept lying on the bed, thinking that her body will get back fine. She had lost her hunger too and thus skipped having lunch that day.

When she still felt torpid and didn’t feel like getting out of bed when her kids came back from their school. She has a cute pair of kids. Her son came in and after climbing on her bed asked, “Mom, is everything fine? Are you sick? Shall I call doctor uncle?” he asked. “No baby, just feeling tired, so I came and lied down. Both of you get to your room and ask Maya (their maid) to change your clothes and better stay in your room, don’t go anywhere out. I’ll have a word with your dad and he will take us out to dinner today, OK?” she replied.

Both jumped off the bed and rushed to their bedroom calling Maya. She again lied on the bed, when her hubby came back from office and asked,” hey baby, what’s wrong with you? You look so tired; did you do some physical work or what?” “I just feel tired and lazy, but don’t worry I’ll be fine soon,” she replied and went to the kitchen to make tea for him. By the time she came back her hubby was playing with her kids. She handed him the cup of tea and asked her kids to complete their home work as they will go for an outing in the evening. The kids left and she went to the bathroom and changed her clothes after having a cold water bath.

The whole family left home in the evening and strolled around the city, did boating in the lake right next to their town had dinner and came back around 9:30 pm and their dad after parking his car, wished his kids good night and they all went to sleep, but she couldn’t find her sleep and kept awake to around 2 am and then dozed off. Early next morning after seeing her kids go to school, she asked her hubby that she was feeling a mild pain in her stomach, “Do you know about any pill that can eliminate this pain, I knew something is wrong with my stomach since yesterday as I had lost the appetite.” “I have an urgent meeting with my employees, but I’ll send a driver and you better see Dr. Gulati and see what’s wrong, OK?” he replied and drove away in his car.

She got ready and rang up her hubby to send the driver home. About 20 minutes later the driver arrived and she asked him to reach Dr. Gulati’s hospital. They reached there very soon and on seeing her, he greeted her and asked “What’s wrong Mrs. Sawant, you look lethargic. Is everything fine?” She told him how she felt and he began examining her and did her colonoscopy done and informed her that she had Ulcerative Colitis. He gave her some capsules and tablets and asked her to visit some reputed hospital. She came back and took those medicines as prescribed, the pain reduced but not for long as she felt the need to visit the toilet to pass stools, which she did.

He handed them the slip that they went to have from their own chemist shop.

But her condition did improve initially and deteriorated later. She had loose motions, cramps in her abdomen, indigestion and became too feeble to work physically. After their treatment that kept stretching up to 1 and a half years she was reduced to be a skinny structure. She used to weep quite frequently and her hubby was a brave man who never gave up hope. He used to console her and keep asking the Gastroenterologist on what to do now. They kept altering the medicines, but to no avail. They made his flesh crawl by stating that his wife needs to take these medicines for the rest of her life, who used to visit the toilet from 20 to 25 times a day.
