The word Dhuri means the ‘Axis’, the place from where a new leaf grows from a stem. This is considered to be the axis of Punjab, the state that has been famous for a land that is feeding the whole of India due to its fertile landscape. A very young lady, just 24 years old Miss Ramanpreet Kaur was suffering from Crohn’s disease as diagnosed by her previous doctors. She was suffering from the last 9 to 10 years, which means she was ambushed by this disease when she was just 14, in her teens. It is such an age when everybody wants to enjoy life and she got affected by this horrible disease.

Her mom first thought that this girl must have eaten some stale or unhealthy food at her school and that’s why she is having the loose motions or cramps in her abdomen. She bought a local medicine from a chemist and her motions subsided and she felt the relief. But the symptoms recurred after few days, this time a little severe and she took her to a local doctor. He examined her and wrote some tests after looking at which he said, “She is suffering from Crohn’s disease, but don’t worry, I’ll give her medicines that will tackle this disease effectively.” But he was telling a lie, the symptoms did reduce a little bit initially, but very soon these again surfaced and this time the bleeding came along the stools.

She pressed the panic button and both of them headed to Patiala, where they thought her disease will be handled more perfectly as this city has a renowned hospital. Both visited that hospital and consulted a physician who used to deal with the patients of Crohn’s disease. He scanned her previous lab and clinic reports and did her various tests and assured them that both have come to the right place but also warned them that this disease will take some time to get eliminated. Both agreed and kept having the medicines by coming to Patiala from their native town of Dhuri, which is about 70 km. Mostly, the medicines kept changing but none proved to be effective. She used to cry often as she was so young that she knew nothing about this disease and relied totally on that doctor. Even her symptoms deteriorated, mucus accompanied the bleeding in stools and she lost her appetite, which is at the peak during this age, and she was losing weight. They visited many doctors and could not find any cure. After some time she began losing her hair too. Loosing hair for a young lady is the worst nightmare.

She was often asking her mother, “Mom, what’s wrong with me? Why are we not getting any cure for this disease, it is getting from bad to worse. Don’t we have a specialist anywhere in India that can cure this messy trouble?” “I don’t know, even your dad is trying to find one. No sooner we get any info about anyone we will certainly visit that doctor. No matter to which city he belongs, maybe we can take you up to Kanyakumari.” Kanyakumari is at the last tip of India in the southern side.

One day her mom’s brother came and said he has found a doctor in Ludhiana and he will be able to control her disease. All three visited this doctor who did the various tests and said, “Actually she is suffering from Ulcerative Colitis and she needs to consume these medicines for as long as she lives. These will control her symptoms and not let them deteriorate as these are laced with steroids and they never fail.” Ramanpreet was an educated lady who knew about the after effects of steroids and she got scared that she might become all alone who has to face the consequences that occur due to all the side effects of steroids.

She got up and taking her mom’s hand told the doctor that both of them need a discussion before proceeding. She took her out and told her mother all about the steroids. “But do we have any other option?” her mom asked. By this time the net had become quite common, usually found in most of the mobiles. She said that she will try to find some cure on the net and both left the place and came back to Dhuri. She dialed their number and narrated the whole story. “Let me see sir, You can come here tomorrow, but do bring in all the tests of labs that have been done and all the clinic slips that were made by the various doctors and also your family history, OK ma’am, see you tomorrow. The clinic opens at 9:30am ma’am.”

She took an appointment with the doctors on the next day. A relative of their lived in Chandigarh and both landed at Chandigarh the same day and decided to visit the place next day at 9:30am.

Before coming to any conclusion, as she was fed up of visiting all the hospitals at various places and was thinking that at least this time this hospital should be effective. But she wanted to check its authenticity.

The doctors went through the whole reports very keenly and after some discussion with themselves turned towards Ramanpreet Kaur and said, “Look Ma’am, you need to follow the prescription precisely or you will not get the desired results. She was chuckling on the phone, the doctor changed her diet and kept altering 1 or 2 medicines and after a year both came in a jubilant mood and just thanking the doctor for giving her a joyful life back as she felt 100% fine. Her hair had grown back; she appeared beautiful and was floating in the air as the doctor has asked her to stop taking any more medicine.
