Review of Planet Ayurveda in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh | Case Study #25

Wife of a young Sikh fellow had this horrible disease called Ulcerative Colitis (UC), comes from the Nalagarh which is situated in the foothills of the vast Himalayan range. This city is showing progress in the industrial zone which is flourishing at a hectic pace and these days leather goods, chemicals, steel, thread mills and breweries are enhancing. The lady felt a mild pain in her stomach one day and she forgot all about it after having a local pill. But after a few days it came again and a little more severe this time. Why are you lying on the bed and look at your face, it appears that you have walked a hundred miles,” he kept his palm on her forehead. “It looks fine, no fever or are you having a headache or what, come on get up, tell me,” he concluded.

She kept the pillow behind her back and got up very lazily and answered in low voice, “I felt a pain in my stomach a few days ago that subsided after having a pill, but today the same pain surfaced that didn’t fade away with the same pill, I had nothing better to do. I am feeling totally drained out, that’s why I was lying on the bed, but don’t worry I will make the tea for you.” But before she could move an inch he prohibited her and said “Don’t worry about the tea, wash your face and comb your hair, change your clothes, we are going to see a doctor right now, come on,” he finished and looked anxiously at her. “I feel lethargic, but will make my face look a little decent, but will not be able to change the clothes,” she narrated like a sick person. “OK, fine, better come out fast as I am taking the car outside the garage, better lock the house before you move out,” he said and moved out.

She appeared decent but was feeling sick the moment both reached a local clinic. He knew the doctor as both were colleagues in the same firm and after greeting both had a word, and he explained everything. The doctor after examining her did a blood test and an MRI scan and the result was UC. The Sikh frowned “What now, you have a medicine to cure or shall I take her to Chandigarh” he asked the doctor. “Don’t worry we have all the medicines in Nalagarh only, you don’t worry, I’ve treated such diseases many times during my career, don’t worry, I’ll handle it just like the drop of a hat,” he finished.

He examined her again and asked her to come again tomorrow so that he can begin the treatment. She looked pale and didn’t feel like eating anything, but on his insisting had a glass of orange juice in the market on their way home. “Will your friend be able to do my treatment or shall I go to my parent’s house in Punjab to get the treatment?” she asked in a husky tone. “Nothing to worry, the first thing you are my spouse and all the treatment will be free, except if we buy a tonic or something like that from the market. Why spend your folks money?” and jokingly added “or do they have it in excess, ask them to send it to me.” She smiled a little bit for the first time during the day and he felt proud to uplift her spirit, which the doctor has asked him to do as stress triggers these symptoms.

The very next day he left her at the clinic and did the report for work as usual, thinking that the doctor will find a solution to this disease within no time. But the symptoms remained the same, neither exceeding much but rarely they used to come down and she stopped taking any medicine and all used to recur, placing her on square one. This removal and recurrence kept going on for 2 long years and her parents also came to know and asking her to reach her native place and get cured. But that doctor was highly qualified and had experience of many years. Even the doctor was perplexed about this entire situation, and he suggested that she will have to take this medicine for the rest of her life. Before coming to any conclusion, as she was fed up of visiting the hospital for such a long time and said before proceeding, she wanted to check its authenticity.

Please,” he was almost pleading. “Sure I will,” said the doctor and signed off.
