About Headache
Pain anywhere in the head or neck region that is the experience of most of the people in their life. Headaches can lead to disturbance in both personal and professional lives. This problem can also cause depression and anxiety. There are some factors in our daily life that can also be the major reasons of headache such as loud noises, very cold food or beverages, sinus issue, various viral infections, common cold or any kind of head injury. These factors can contribute to headaches.
Stress is a another most common factor that contributes to this problem. It is often advised to start a day with mediation or some exercise to release the stress from the body. Not only headache, stress is the major reason of many other life threatening disease such as heart attack.
Different Types of Headache
1. Primary Headaches
This headache usually occurs due to over activity of structures within the head. This may also occur sue to changes in the chemical activity of the brain.
2. Secondary Headaches
This headache occurs when some conditions stimulates the pain sensitive nerves in the head. This headache is usually caused due to below factors:-
- Hangover
- Brain tumor
- Blood clots
- Dehydration
- Teeth-grinding at night
- Influenza
- Over use of pain medications
- Pain attacks
- Stroke
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Brain-freezing
- Bleeding in or around brain
3. Tension Headaches
Tension headache is categorized under primary headache. This can arise due to tight hair bands or rubber bands, pain from or around the neck, acne.
4. Migraines
This headache occurs due to severe pain on one side of the head and may also include blurred vision, nausea, sensory disturbance, light-headedness. This is also categorized under primary headaches and is one of the common headaches of all and many people suffer from this particular type of headache.
5. Rebound Headaches
This particular headache occurs due to overuse of particular medications. This is categorized under secondary headaches. These can be treated with certain medications, but the effects can get worse. The symptoms may include neck pain, restlessness, nasal congestion, improper sleep.
6. Cluster Headaches
This is a sudden headache. They can occur once a day or more that once and can stay till weeks. This pain is usually one-sided, severe, often describes as sharp and burning and happens around the eye.
7. Thunderclap Headaches
This is the worst kind of headache and is often termed as life threatening headache. They occur very suddenly and can cause inter-cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral venous thrombosis, ruptured or unruptured aneurysms and pituitary apoplexy. This type of headache can reach maximum intensity in about five minutes. People with often severe headaches should seek medical help immediately.
How is Headache Diagnosed?
- The main method to diagnose is clinical examination.
- Physical examination and medical history are also done.
