Kanakasava

Introduction

Kanakasava is a herbal formulation generally used to treat respiratory disorders and is also anti- pyretic. It comprises of 5-10 percent self-generated alcohol. Kanakasava is also commonly used to cure respiratory conditions such as asthma, fever, cough and bleeding diseases. It also acts as a bronchodilator and natural mucolytic. Kanakasava also helps to treat chronic fever, injuries and bleeding disorders. It is also useful to relieve mucous congestion in chest.

Method of Preparation

Clean and dry the Kwatha Dravyas as well as the Pakshepa Dravyas and add it to 24.576 litres. Let it settle for some time and filter it with a muslin cloth. Transfer the filtered product to a clean jar and add prakshepa dravyas and other coarsely powdered drugs. Now, seal the jar and move it to the fermentation room and regularly observe the signs of fermentation. When the process is completed, the contents are filtered and stored in an amber colored bottle away from light and moisture.

Properties of Kanakasava

Use of this Ayurvedic medicine is quite effective to resolve the respiratory complications. Expectorant and decongestant properties of this medicine help to remove the mucous, phlegm from airy way, nasal channels, lungs etc. In the case of asthma, this medicine helps to manage the problems like narrowing of air ways, bronchial congestion. It also helps to alleviate the problems of shortness of breath by increasing the lungs capacity for oxygen intake. Antimicrobial properties of this medicine are quite helpful to fight against the various viral, bacterial and fungal infections. Kanakasava helps to enhance the immunity and maintains the good health of overall body. Use of this medicine is quite helpful to provide relief in heavy cough. This Ayurvedic medicine supports the good health of lungs. In the case of tuberculosis, it helps to manage the symptoms like fever, bloody mucus, coughing etc. in any lung injury, Kanakasava is helpful in healing of lungs tissues. In the case of Dyspnea, this medicine is good to resolve the problems like feeling suffocated, narrowing in the chest etc. This medicine is known to be quite good in managing the bleeding disorders like nasal bleeding and fevers.

Dosage

2-4 ml with equal water after meals twice daily.

Contraindications

Over dose can cause stomach irritation and diarrhea.

It shouldn’t be taken without medical supervision. It may also cause side effects similar to those of Dhatura poisoning.
