How Evans Syndrome can be Managed by Natural Remedies?

Evans Syndrome

Introduction

Evans syndrome is a rare autoimmune blood disorder. This syndrome was first explained in 1951. In this disease own immune system starts producing antibodies against the healthy red blood cells, platelets and even destroy some white blood cells. This destruction of cells is also termed as ‘Cytopenia’. It is named syndrome because these individuals usually suffer from a group of diseases like – thrombocytopenia (very low level of platelets), hemolytic anemia (premature destruction of red blood cells), etc. Anyperson may present with the symptoms like – weakness, bruises, bleeding, etc.

According to Ayurveda, this condition can be correlated to the Raktapitta. Where the main culprit of this disorder is Rakta dosha (as per Sushruta) and pitta dosha. Basically, pitta is the vitiating factor that leads to vitiation of the other two doshas in our body, these vitiated doshas get localized in Saptadhatus and vitiate them, especially the Rasa and Rakta dhatu.

What are the Causes of Evans Syndrome?

The exact cause is still unknown. But there are some factors that may responsible for this disorder :-

  • Vihaar Karana (Lifestyle factors) – Excessively indulging in atapasevana (exposure to sunlight), adhwa (excessive walking), vyayam (excessive physical activities), etc.
  • Mansik Karana (Mental status) – Krodha (anger), shoka (grief), etc. leads to pitta imbalance.
  • Vanshaj Karana (Hereditary factors) – This disease might also be inherited in rare cases.
