PARPATADYARISHTAM – INGREDIENTS, INDICATIONS, USES AND BENEFITS

INTRODUCTION

Parpatadyarishtam is an Ayurvedic liquid medicine, used as a detoxifier. It contains 6 – 12 % of self-generated alcohol in it and this media helps to deliver water and alcohol soluble active herbal components to the body. Parpatadyarishtam is used in treating abdominal disorders, spleen and liver enlargement.

  1. PITPAPADA (Fumaria indica) – 5 kg
  2. Guda (JAGGERY) – 10kg
  3. DHATAKI FLOWERS (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 750 gm
  4. GUDUCHI (Tinospora cordifolia) – 50 gm
  5. NAGARMOTHA (Cyperus rotundus) – 50 gm
  6. DARUHALDI (Berberis aristata) – 50 gm
  7. DEVDARU (Cedrus deodara) – 50 gm
  8. KANTKARI (Solanum xanthocarpum) – 50 gm
  9. JAWASA (Alhagi camelorum) – 50 gm
  10. CHAVYA (Piper retrofractum) – 50 gm
  11. CHITRAKMOOLA (Plumbago zeylanica) – 50 gm
  12. VAYAVIDANG (Embelia ribes) – 50 gm

BENEFITS OF INGREDIENTS

  1. PITPAPADA (Fumaria indica) – Pitapapada is bitter in taste and cold in potency. It is best to treat fever of pitta origin. It acts as absorbent hence useful in diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome. Pitapapda treats gastritis, diarrhoea, excessive thirst, etc.
  2. JAGGERY – Jaggery is rich in antioxidants and nutrients. It is the best alternative of sugar and is used to improve digestion.
  3. DHATAKI FLOWERS (Woodfordia fruticosa) – The flowers of this herb are used for fermentation in almost every Ayurvedic formulation and are useful in treating dyspepsia and indigestion.
  4. GUDUCHI (Tinosporia cordifolia) – Guduchi treats digestive ailments such as hyperacidity, colitis, loss of appetite and abdominal pain.
  5. NAGARMOTHA (Cyperus rotundus) – Nagarmotha is the best herb to treat fever. Due to its carminative nature, it is used to relieve symptoms like bloating and flatulence.
  6. DARUHALDI (Berberis aristata) – Daruhaldi is used in Ayurvedic medicine from a long time. It has hypoglycaemic, antibacterial, antifungal, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective effects on the body.
  7. DEVDARU (Cedrus deodara) – It can be used to prevent inflammation in the body and also improves digestion.
  8. KANTKARI (Solanum xanthocarpum) – It is a very useful Ayurveda herb, used widely in the treatment of cough, cold, asthma and other respiratory tract conditions. It is one among Dashamoola – a group of ten roots.
  9. JAWASA (Alhagi camelorum) – Yavasa is an Ayurvedic herb, used mainly in the treatment of obesity, skin diseases and Pitta conditions.
  10. CHAVYA (Piper retrofractum) – Piper retrofractum is one among Panchakola group of spices. Chavya helps in proper secretion of bile and digestive juices.
  11. CHITRAKMOOLA (Plumbago zeylanica) – This herb has various properties like carminative and astringent properties. These properties make them suitable for treating intestinal problems such as dysentery, diarrhoea, and dyspepsia.
  12. VAYAVIDANG (Embelia ribes) – Vaividang traditionally used as appetizer, carminative, laxative and worm infestations.
  13. SHUNTHI (Zingiber officinale) – Shunthi is used to improve the metabolism of the body. It benefits a lot in all digestive disorders especially haemorrhoids and loss of appetite.
  14. PIPPALI (Piper longum) – It is hot in potency and aromatic in nature. Pippali is known as “tridoshic” herb as it suits all body types. Best herb to treat digestive problems.
  15. MARICH (Piper nigrum) – Black pepper is an appetizer and carminative commonly used in the treatment of digestive system related complaints like dyspepsia, indigestion, flatulence, nausea, diarrhoea and colic pain.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

All ingredients are taken in powder form and decoction is prepared with 52 liters of water till it is reduced to 1 /4. This mixture is poured in a mud vessel which is sealed properly. The vessel is kept in a room for 21 days after 21 days mixture is filtered and preserved for further use.

INDICATIONS

Parpatadyarishtam is used in the treatment of abdominal disorders, hepatomegaly, anaemia, abdominal lump, jaundice, splenomegaly, intermittent fever and swelling.
