Vasavaleha – Benefits, Usage, Indications and Dosage

Introduction
Vasavaleha is a well-known herbal formulation in the form of a jam or paste. It is primarily used in treating respiratory disorders.
Ingredients
- Vasa (Adhatoda vasica)
- Long pepper (Piper longum)
- Clarified butter
- Honey
- Sugar
Method of Preparation
Both the ingredients (vasa and sugar) are heated till they reach a semi solid consistency. During heating add a specified amount of clarified butter. After sometime add powdered long pepper and mix well. Add honey in the end and combine to form a homogenous mixture.
Properties
Vasavaleha is an ayurvedic formulation that is very effective in managing broad range of ailments. This formulation known to contain herbs like vasa and pippali. Vasa is a very fruitful herb which is loaded with therapeutically properties like bronchodilator, Anti-asthmatic, expectorant, Anti-ulcerative, Anti-allergy, Anti-tubercular and antimicrobial etc. these properties are provided via phytochemicals present in the herb – alkaloids, maiontone, vasicinolone and vasicinol etc. the other herb long pepper is known to consist alkaloids, liganins, saponins, carbohydrates, piperine, piplatin and long chain hydrocarbons etc. which enrich herb with medicinal properties like anti-asthmatic, bio-availability, immunomodulatory, Hepatoprotective and antibacterial etc. These herbs combine to formulate a fruitful formulation that is known to cure certain problems such as properties like bronchodilator known to manage problem of bronchitis, expectorant properties known to clear the air passages and provide relief from cold and cough, anti-asthmatic and anti-allergic manage asthma problem, anti-tubercular properties control the TB condition, immunomodulatory known to enhance immunity in the body, antimicrobial activities control the microbial infections and anti-ulcerative control the formation of ulcers in the body.

Dosage
6 to 12 grams twice a day after meals with warm milk, water or honey or as prescribed by your doctor.
Contraindications
- There are no reported side effects of this formulation.
- Over dosage might cause stomach discomfort.
- Diabetic patients should take under strict medical supervision.
