About Dyspepsia
Dyspepsia, also known as Indigestion, is a functional disease that results due to abnormal function of gastrointestinal organs mainly stomach and first part of small intestine. Sometimes it is called as “functional dyspepsia”. It is one of the common ailments of intestines. It is a chronic disease which usually lasts for years.
Dyspepsia in Ayurveda
Ayurveda is one of an oldest healthcare system that maintains three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha) of the body in order to support overall health of the body in a natural way.
Dyspepsia is known as “Ajeerna” in Ayurveda. The main cause of this health condition is Agnimandya (weakened digestive fire).
According to Ayurveda, Ajeerna is of different types which are explained below:
1. Amajeerna
It occurs due to imbalance in Kapha dosha. Accumulation of too much Kapha in the stomach leads to unhealthy stomach. Too much Kapha in the stomach dilutes the digestive acids and results in improper digestion.
2. Vidagdhajeerna
It occurs due to imbalance in Pitta dosha of the body. This type of Ajeerna occurs when there is more digestive acid production which in turn leads to improper digestion. Acid flux is also a result of this condition.
3. Vishtabdhajeerna
It occurs due to aggravation of Vata dosha. It happens when there is shortage of digestive juices and sometimes due to this, food remains undigested. This may even results in pain.
4. Rasseshajeerna
This type of Ajeerna occurs when the food gets digested and undigested matter remains in the digestive juice and hence leads to heaviness.
