Overview

It is a rhizomatous perennial, growing to 1.2 m tall by 0.3m broad. The stem is unbranched, arching, and glossy, round and erect from the base. The flower is greenish white in color, 9-20mm in height long, fused and slightly constricted in middle. Leaves are dark green in color, ovately elliptic, with entire margins and the base is sheathed.

Flowering time in June.
It is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) pollinated by insects.
Fruit : Bluish blackberry.
The botanical name is Polygonatum multiflorum and it belongs to family Asparagaceae.

Other Names

Other common names are ladder-to-heaven, David’s-Harp, Eurasian Solomon’s heal, Lady’s seal, St. Mary’s Seal.

Habitat

Seaside alder groves, woodland garden dappled shade, Shady edge, not deeper shade; ground cover; native to Europe and temperate Asia.
